China's President Xi Jinping in Hong Kong 'safeguarding' pledge
Chinese President Xi Jinping has said his country will safeguard Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, amidst growing unrest in the territory.
Pro-democracy crowds have taken to the streets to demand that China withdraws plans to vet candidates for the next leadership election in 2017.
Speaking to Communist Party leaders in Beijing, Mr Xi said his government would "unswervingly implement the guidelines of 'one country, two systems'".
