Pope Francis is trying to shift the focus of the Roman Catholic Church away from Europe and towards growing communities in Asia.
Asia now represents almost 12% of the total Catholic population in the world, or 137 million people.
The Pope is embarking on his second tour of the continent since becoming pontiff in 2013.
Even countries like China, which has its own state-sanctioned Catholic Church, have shown signs of warming to him.
