Pakistani activist Sabeen Mehmud: 'You have to take some risks'

Sabeen Mehmud, the Pakistani human rights activist who was shot dead in Karachi, had told the BBC in an interview that she felt she had to take risks.

She was killed hours after hosting a talk on the Pakistani army's alleged involvement in the torture and killing of political activists in restive Balochistan province.

She had previously held a Valentine's Day protest in Karachi, which argued it was acceptable to celebrate the day in Pakistan.

This demonstration resulted in death threats as well as a "lot of hatred" and "a lot of vitriol" on social media.
