Pakistan heatwave: Karachi hospital 'under tremendous pressure'

Nearly 700 people have died from a searingly hot three-day heatwave in Pakistan, officials have confirmed.

In the city of Karachi, temperatures have reached 45C (113F) in recent days.

Dr Seemi Jamali, director of Jinnah Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, said her team normally treated 1,100 to 1,200 patients every 24 hours in the emergency department.

Numbers have risen to 1,800 to 1,900 per day since the heatwave started to take its toll, she said.
