Discontent and dissent in the Maldives

After years of autocratic leadership the Maldives became a democracy in 2008.

But critics say that under President Abdulla Yameen, the country risks sliding back into repression, and that his hold on power is fragile.

The government says claims of an attempt to "overthrow" it were a "clear breach of international norms".
