Japan passes emergency budget for quake relief

Japan's lower house has approved an emergency budget of nearly $50bn to begin clearing and rebuilding after the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March.

The government estimates the total cost will be six times that amount.

The Prime Minister, Naoto Kan, is coming under renewed attack over his handling of the crisis after a government adviser resigned in protest.
