France rejects UN Roma criticism

France has rejected a report from the UN calling for an end to what it has called the collective deportation of Roma people from the country.

President Sarkozy has said 300 Roma camps will be dismantled, and hundreds of Roma have already been sent back to Romania and Bulgaria.

The UN's anti-racism committee says it is concerned some of the hundreds of people deported were not fully informed of their rights or freely consented to leave.

Imogen Foulkes reports from Geneva.
