Ratko Mladic shuns 'monstrous' war crimes charges

After 16 years on the run, the former Bosnian Serb army commander, Ratko Mladic, has made his first appearance before judges at a war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

The indictment against him, which includes charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, was read out in the courtroom.

When asked if he wanted to enter a plea, General Mladic dismissed the charges relating to the Bosnian war in the 1990s as "obnoxious".

The BBC's Peter Biles reports.
