Eta announces 'definitive cessation of armed activity'

The Basque separatist paramilitary organisation, Eta, has announced what it calls "a definitive cessation of armed activity".

The message came in a video recording passed to the BBC. It follows years of mediation efforts, involving many of those who helped bring peace to Northern Ireland.

Eta's campaign for independence for the Basque region on the border between France and Spain has spanned more than 50 years and led to the deaths of more than 800 people.

The BBC's James Robbins has this exclusive report.
