France election: Final day of campaigning

Nicolas Sarkozy and Francois Hollande have been campaigning for the final day ahead of Sunday's French presidential election.

Mr Hollande is leading in opinion polls but President Sarkozy is closing the gap. He said on Thursday that it would be a close-run contest and no French election had ever been so "undecided".

But if the polls are proved correct, Mr Sarkozy could become the first French president since Valery Giscard d'Estaing in 1981 not to win a second term.

Gavin Hewitt reports.
