Hollande wins French election
French Socialist Francois Hollande has begun work forming his new government, a day after he won the presidential election and ended Nicolas Sarkozy's rule after just one term.
Mr Hollande, France's first Socialist president for 17 years, said the people had voted for change and that austerity should no longer be considered inevitable.
But while he has pledged to renegotiate the EU fiscal pact, Germany has already said the deal is not open for discussion.
