Artificial jellyfish created from heart cells

Scientists in the US have shown off a free swimming artificial jellyfish.

Video footage shows how the replica closely mimics the swimming behaviour of a real jellyfish.

The team members built the replica using silicone as a base on which to grow heart muscle cells from rats.

They used an electric current to shock the artificial animal into swimming with synchronised contractions.
