Cardinal Napier: Child abuse 'a crime'

The Archbishop of Durban in South Africa, Wilfrid Fox Napier, one of the cardinals who took part in the conclave to elect Pope Francis, gave a second interview to BBC Radio 5 live's Stephen Nolan to clarify his position with regard to paedophilia and victims of child abuse.

The previous day he had faced criticism after saying that paedophilia should be considered a psychological illness rather than a criminal condition.

In his second interview, he explained his position, that paedophilia is a crime, but that when someone accused of abuse has themself been abused, experts need to be consulted to establish "whether that person can be held criminally responsible".
