It is 70 years since the start of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, one of the most remarkable acts of defiance in the Second World War.

The Nazis had already sent a quarter of a million people to be gassed at Treblinka.

Several hundred young Jewish men, armed with rifles and pistols against the might of the German army, tried in vain to stop the final destruction of the second largest Jewish community in the world.

The BBC's Warsaw correspondent Adam Easton heard from a survivor.
