Turkey: Clashes during May Day protests in Istanbul

Violent clashes erupted between police and protesters in Turkey on Wednesday, when hundreds tried to breach barricades and reach Istanbul's main square to mark May Day.

Some demonstrators hurled missiles, while riot police fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse the crowd as clashes broke out on side streets leading to Taksim Square.
