A sister venue to the Mariinsky Theatre - one of Russia's best known theatres - is due to have its grand opening on Thursday in St Petersburg.

But some critics say the Mariinsky II is bland and too closely resembles a shopping centre when compared to its 19th Century counterpart.

BBC Russian's Alexander Kan reports.
