Turkey violence continues after government apology

Violent anti-government demonstrations have continued for a fifth night in Turkey, as police and protesters clashed in Ankara and Istanbul.

Officers fired tear gas and used water cannons to disperse protesters, who have accused the Turkish government of becoming increasingly authoritarian.

The violent scenes come just hours after Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc apologised for the police response to initial protests last week.
