Extreme immigration: Moving to Paris to get to the UK

British citizens are moving elsewhere in Europe to bypass government immigration rules and get their relatives into the UK.

People who wish to bring family from outside the European Economic Area but are unable to meet UK visa requirements are taking advantage of a technicality that means that if they work in another European country for around three months, they can return and be considered under EU rather than British law.

The government's visa rules do not apply to Europeans in the UK.

Critics argue those using this route are making a mockery of the country's visa system but those doing it say that they are forced to by tightening UK immigration rules.

BBC Asian Network and Newsnight reporter Catrin Nye met Sarah Pitard from Chicago and Chris Hall from Swindon who are using the route.
