'I was wrong; I am sorry', says Spain's Mariano Rajoy

The Spanish Prime Minister has admitted that he was wrong to trust a disgraced former colleague.

Mariano Rajoy was speaking in parliament about his alleged involvement in a corruption scandal that is undermining the authority of his ruling People's Party.

The party's ex-treasurer, Luis Barcenas, has been jailed on bribery and tax evasion charges.

Barcenas told a judge he took millions of euros in cash donations from construction magnates and distributed them to senior PP figures including Rajoy.
