EU hammers out controversial farm subsidy reform

EU governments and Euro MPs have reached a controversial deal to shift farm spending more towards environmental targets.

But critics such as the UK Conservatives and Green MEPs say the measures are not green enough and leave big inequalities among Europe's farms.

The wealthiest recipients of farm subsidies will get a 5% cut - but many MEPs wanted a bigger cut than that.

The BBC's Chris Morris explained in June why the farm budget is such a thorny issue for the EU.
