Georgia 'on right path' - PM Ivanishvili

Georgia's prime minister has told the BBC that it is time for him to step down because he has now put Georgia "on the right path".

Bidzina Ivanishvili, a billionaire, said Georgia's presidential election on 27 October would be peaceful and "the first European-style election" in the ex-Soviet state.

Before his victory in a parliamentary election last year, he said, the former Soviet republic had been drifting towards dictatorship under President Mikheil Saakashvili.

The election will end the decade-long rule of President Saakashvili and transfer more powers to parliament.

Mr Ivanishvili spoke to the BBC's Rayhan Demytrie in Tbilisi.
