Ukraine: 'Activist killed with approval of state'

The political crisis in Ukraine deepened on Friday as protests spread from the embattled capital of Kiev to more cities in the country.

Although there have been many protests in Ukraine over the last ten years, this is the first time that they have turned deadly, with two protesters confirmed dead this week.

The authorities have denied allegations of government corruption and abuse of power.

They have also denied responsibility for any of the deaths that have occurred since Sunday.

Gabriel Gatehouse reports for BBC Newsnight on stories of horrific brutality and intimidation, a violence which some say the Ukrainian state is behind.
