Ukraine crisis: Many dead in government offensive

Several people have been killed in Ukraine during violent clashes between government troops and pro-Russian militants.

In Sloviansk, two pilots died when their military helicopters were shot out of the sky, while on the ground protesters staged a blockade as army tanks approached the city.

Acting president, Oleksandr Turchynov insisted the government had made some gains, killing, injuring and arresting many pro-Russian rebels.

Fergal Keane reports from Sloviansk.
