Abkhazia: The tiny republic rich in hypotheticals

Abkhazia, a tiny republic on the shores of the Black Sea, is holding presidential elections on Sunday.

A self-proclaimed state, whose independence is recognised by a handful of countries, was the scene of a bloody war with Georgia in the early nineties.

It has been a thorn in the relations between Georgia and Russia ever since - culminating in Moscow accepting Abkhazia's statehood six years ago.
