Russia warns US against strikes on Islamic State in Syria

A US military air strike against Islamists in Syria without President Assad's consent would amount to an "act of aggression", according to Russia's Foreign Ministry.

Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich also warned that without the backing of the UN Security Council, such action would be a "gross violation" of international law.

President Obama has threatened action against IS in Syria as well as Iraq.
