Madrid opposed to Catalonia independence referendum
The Spanish government in Madrid have said a referendum in Catalonia would be illegal under the national constitution.
They have stated they would "take any measure possible" to prevent such a vote taking place, including suspending the powers of the Catalan regional government.
Catalan President Artur Mas has praised the referendum in Scotland and said it was "right" for a similar vote to take place in Catalonia.
