Will Catholic Church 'move with the times?'
Pope Francis has opened a two week synod at the Vatican to discuss controversial issues affecting the Catholic Church, including abortion, contraception, homosexuality and divorce.
Opening the gathering, the Pope asked bishops not to impose what he called intolerable moral burdens on believers.
The BBC's James Reynolds said discussions over the next two weeks would centre around the issue of whether or not the teachings of the Catholic Church should be updated, and that the Pope had indicated he wanted to "more with the times".
