Changes to French welfare system will affect the better-off

Important changes to the French welfare system come under debate today in the upper chamber of parliament, the Senate.

The French socialist welfare system means the rich and poor make different contributions but receive the same amount.

If the bill goes through, the better-off will receive a lower level of child benefit than the poor.
