Patrolling the Mediterranean Sea for migrants
The problem of migrants trying to travel from Africa to Europe by sea has been in the spotlight recently, after 300 perished trying to make the journey last week.
Since November the job of search and rescue has been carried out by the EU's border agency, Frontex, but aid agencies have warned that it is chronically underfunded and woefully inadequate for the the task.
