Hundreds of rescued migrants arrive on Lampedusa

The Italian coastguard has rescued more than 2,000 migrants in a major operation off the Libyan coast, according to officials.

Navy ships and commercial cargo vessels were also involved and hundreds of those rescued have been taken to the Italian island of Lampedusa.
