Gay marriage vote: 'Today Ireland made history' - Kenny

The Republic of Ireland has voted overwhelmingly to legalise same-sex marriage - the first country to do so in a popular vote.

More than 62% voted in favour of amending the country's constitution to allow gay and lesbian couples to marry.

Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny hailed his country's historic move: "With today's vote we have disclosed who we are: A generous, compassionate, bold and joyful people."
