Thousands protest ahead of G7 summit in Germany

Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of the German resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen ahead of the two-day G7 summit.

They included anarchists dressed in black, anti-capitalists demonstrating against a proposed trans-Atlantic trade deal and peace protesters waving rainbow flags and anti-war banners.

Although the demonstration was largely peaceful, a small group of protesters clashed with police, throwing bottles at officers who responded with pepper spray.
