Merkel and Hollande appeal for unity over migrant crisis

The French and German leaders have given a joint address to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, urging EU members to act together to tackle the migrant crisis.

More than 600,000 people have arrived in the EU during 2015.

French President Francois Holland said that whatever was happening in Syria would also affect Europe, while German Chancellor Angela Merkel said only a "fair relocation" of refugees around Europe would help to solve the migrant crisis.
