Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer statue turns 80
Rio de Janeiro's world famous landmark, the statue of Christ the Redeemer, will turn 80 on Wednesday.
The monument was inaugurated on 12 October 1931, and the anniversary will be celebrated with concerts, exhibitions, religious services and social events.
On 28 October, replicas of the figure will be taken to cities around the world including Buenos Aires, New York, Rome and Jerusalem.
