New found film shines a light on Bolivia's dark history

A Bolivian film researcher sorting through the archives of an old cinema in La Paz has discovered a unique record of a key moment in the country's history.

The silent documentary footage shows the execution in 1927 of Alfredo Jauregui, a man convicted - but most likely to have been innocent - of killing ex-President Jose Manuel Pando 10 years earlier.

The film - called El Bolillo Fatal o el Emblema de la Muerte (The Fatal Lottery or the Emblem of Death) - was censored as soon as it was released and has not been seen for 85 years.
