US-Cuba relations: Remembering the last American colonist
Mirta Iglesias is a local resident of La Gloria, which was once a US colony in Cuba.
Iglesias speaks about William Stokes, commonly known as the "last American in Cuba". He came over on the steamboat from the US as a baby in 1900 and died in La Gloria in 1974.
Americans came to La Gloria thinking they had bought parcels in paradise, but soon found they were sold a lie. Many returned to the US, but some stayed and formed a settlement.
Iglesias also talks about what the town needs today if it is to survive in the 21st Century.
