Libya: Rebels celebrate keeping control of Zawiya

Forces loyal to the Libyan leader, Colonel Gaddafi, have been fighting to seize back control of the city of Zawiya, west of the capital Tripoli - but opposition fighters say they have driven them back.

The pro-Gaddafi forces were reported to have entered Zawiya after overcoming some rebel positions with heavy shelling and machine gun fire.

But witnesses in the city say the attackers were beaten back from the city centre.

One resident of Zawiya, Mohammed, said the opposition fighters were celebrating on the streets.
