Egypt's post-Mubarak parliament holds first session

Egypt's first parliament to be elected since President Hosni Mubarak stood down last February is holding its inaugural session.

The BBC's Jon Lene in Cairo says it is "a truly historic moment" for Egypt after the popular uprising that ended Mubarak's 30-year rule.

Islamists dominated the elections held for the People's Assembly over the past three months, winning 73% of the seats.

Liberal and secular parties polled badly and The Revolution Continues, a group formed by youth activists behind the uprising, won only seven seats.
