UN Security Council votes to send monitors to Syria

The United Nations Security Council in New York has voted in favour of a resolution to send an advance team to monitor the ceasefire in Syria.

The Council also condemned human rights violations by Syrian forces, and abuses by what it termed 'armed groups'.

Addressing the Council, British ambassador Mark Lyall Grant said both the regime and opposition now had commitments to fulfil.
