Israeli PM Netanyahu vows to keep building

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue building homes "in Jerusalem and anywhere on Israel's strategic map" despite growing international condemnation of his country's plans.

Britain and France have both summoned Israeli ambassadors in protest at the decision to approve the construction of 3,000 new homes in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Israel authorised the building of the new housing units a day after the UN voted to upgrade Palestinian status - a move strongly opposed by Israel.
