UN Sec Gen appeals for an end to violence in Syria
The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has called for Security Council member countries to unite in their stance on the Syrian crisis.
Mr Ban said he was "shocked and saddened and even angry" by events he described as "a human tragedy".
Russia and China have frequently opposed Western initiatives. Mr Ban was speaking in Turkey on the second day of a tour of countries affected by the Syrian conflict.
