World must stop Iran's nuclear ambitions, warns Netanyahu

Israel has warned that world powers must keep up pressure on Iran to stop its nuclear programme, after the election of Hassan Rouhani as the new president.

One of Mr Rouhani's main election pledges was to try to ease international sanctions imposed on Iran over its nuclear programme.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pointed out that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei remained Iran's ultimate authority.

And, he continued, only the threat of "western military action" had achieved a temporary freeze in Iran's nuclear programme.
