Egypt spokesman: 'We want democracy, freedom, justice'
An adviser to Egypt's interim president has defended the decision tackle on protesters in the country, saying that recent demonstrations were not peaceful, "with people firing on our police forces".
Mostafa Hegazy's comments came during an interview with the BBC's Jeremy Bowen, in which he also argued that the interim government was simply trying to ensure there was "democracy, freedom, justice".
Hundreds of people have died in Egypt in the last week - in a surge of violence linked to protests over the ousting of President Mohammed Morsi.
