Abdul Fattah al-Sisi - in 60 seconds

Ex-army chief Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has vowed to to tackle "terrorism" and pledged no reconciliation with those who had "committed violence", after being sworn in as Egypt's new president.

Mr Sisi stood down as military chief and defence minister in March, announcing he would stand for president.

He was appointed commander-in-chief by President Mohammed Morsi in August 2012. Less than a year later, he led the overthrow of Egypt's first democratically elected head of state, following mass opposition protests.
