Egypt doctor stands trial for Female Genital Mutilation

For the first time a doctor in Egypt is to stand trial on charges of female genital mutilation, following the death of a 13-year-old girl.

The girl's father, who is accused of taking her for the operation, is also being tried in a landmark prosecution.

In Egypt, where the practice is illegal, 91% of women have been subjected to the procedure.

It has been outlawed in most of the countries in which it happens but the laws are poorly enforced.
