FGM: UK's first female genital mutilation prosecutions announced
A doctor and another man have become the first people in Britain to be charged in connection with performing female genital mutilation.
They have yet to stand trial but it is alleged the offence took place on a woman at the Whittington Hospital in north London.
FGM has been banned since 1985 but it hass taken until now to bring the first prosecution.
It is thought over 60,000 women in the UK have been mutilated and more than 20,000 girls are at risk.
