Egypt poll: 'I don't believe these are real elections'
Abdul Fattah al-Sisi is expected to easily beat leftist Hamdeen Sabahi in presidential elections.
Sisi, who was then a field marshal, led the coup which deposed the last elected president Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood almost a year ago. Since then thousands of people have been arrested, not just Islamists but also the secular activists who led the uprising in Tahrir Square that forced the overthrow of former President Mubarak.
Among them was Nagy Kamel, a well known campaigner for democracy, who was one of the main organisers in Tahrir Square in 2011. He told Middle East Editor Jeremy Bowen that when he was arrested in January, and held for almost two months, he was tortured.
