Israeli president 'sorry' over four child deaths in Gaza

The Israeli president has apologised for the deaths of four Palestinian children in an Israeli attack on Wednesday.

The children, all from the same family, were killed by an Israeli naval bombardment as they played on a beach.

In an interview with the BBC, Shimon Peres said the killings were not deliberate and insisted Israeli forces would not have carried out the attack if they had known the children were there.
