John Kerry in Egypt in push for Gaza-Israel ceasefire

A diplomatic push to broker a truce in the Gaza Strip is intensifying, as Israel continues its military operation against militants in the territory.

US Secretary of State John Kerry met UN chief Ban Ki-moon and Egyptian foreign minister Sameh Shoukry in Cairo, renewing the call for a ceasefire.

Israel has continued its bombardment of the Gaza Strip, hitting more than 70 targets overnight including mosques and a sports stadium.

Palestinian rocket fire into Israel continued overnight.
