The brutal murder of an American journalist who was kidnapped and held hostage for two years in Syria has brought condemnation from around the world, with authorities vowing to track down his killer.

Islamic State jihadists apparently demanded a $132m (£80m) ransom for the release of James Foley before he was killed by a man who spoke with a British accent.
